Polaris

Polaris is the software (also known as an ILS, or Integrated Library System) all TRAC libraries use. Every item in TRAC is catalogued in Polaris. Libraries use Polaris to lend out items and keep track of patrons. Patrons search the shared collection using TRACpac online.

All libraries within TRAC share the Polaris software. TRAC Operational Guidelines are in place to ensure that Polaris and basic operations are implemented consistently across the regions. You can read more about the operational guidelines on the TRAC Operational Guidelines webpage. Please refer any questions to your Regional Library System Headquarters.

Leap is a web-based circulation tool for Polaris that allows library staff to perform basic library services outside of the library (i.e., outreach services). While Leap works best on a laptop, it can also be used on tablets. Leap can also be used inside the library and performs the majority of tasks done in Polaris. All libraries within TRAC have access to and share the Leap software.

SimplyReports is a web-based application that pulls data from the Polaris databases. Users can create their own custom reports using their preferred internet browser and without needing knowledge of SQL. Simple data categories tied to the various work forms within Polaris (i.e. Patrons, patron Accounts, Holds, Items, Bibs, Funds, Invoices, Orders, etc.) allow users to pull and filter data to build custom reports based on their library’s statistics. SimplyReports is an incredibly useful tool to help you make evidence-based decisions regarding your library. Building reports allows you to explore questions, discover trends, and identify user needs!
